Our Why

Our Approach

Faith and Action

The Magi Foundation is a Melbourne-based charitable, non-profit, non-governmental organization that had its genesis in April 2022 in Addis Ababa when an Australian couple of Ethiopian origin, both with a passion for supporting children, partnered with two Ethiopians to found it and register it in Ethiopia.

The Magi Foundation Inc gets its name from the Three Wise Men who followed a star from the East to Bethlehem in search of the King of Kings, the newborn Jesus. When they found him, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh – symbolising Christ’s kingship on Earth, deity and eventual death. Thus, heralding an era of change throughout the world, so well documented in The Bible. Today, The Magi Foundation offers hope.

Hope to the impoverished, the homeless, the misguided, the orphaned and the oppressed. Through education, health and welfare programs, job training and help in keeping families together in an ever-confusing, ever-changing world. It is not a coincidence that the word “Magi” is also a Latin term reflecting on our desire to bring the light of hope to orphans, vulnerable children, and their guardians.

The Magi Foundation works with communities in Africa, Australia and elsewhere to support orphans and vulnerable children to reach their full potential as productive members of society – its raison d’etre

The Magi Foundation’s expansion to Melbourne enables the organisation to broaden its impact with transformative initiatives, including a Neurodivergent Boxing Program, Sports Program, and Entrepreneurial Program, all designed to empower individuals, families and communities to thrive.

From ADIS ABBABA to Melbourne – the Australian Connection

The Magi Foundation operates both in Ethiopia and Melbourne, focusing on community support and development. In Ethiopia, it provides essential services such as feeding programs, orphanage funding, healthcare, education, and infrastructure projects. Due to limited resources, 20% of net revenue from its Melbourne-based programs will be sent back to support these initiatives.

In Melbourne Australia, the foundation aims to support Ethiopian and Afro-Australian communities by addressing key social issues, including youth crime, mental health, integration, and employment. It also seeks to raise awareness of Ethiopian identity and challenges, as many Ethiopians face discrimination and social exclusion, and the isolation faced by the general African-Australian population. The core programs design to address these key issues are the Neurodivergent boxing program, the community sports program and the entrepreneurial program.

A unique aspect of The Magi Foundation is its commitment to financial transparency, ensuring donors can track how funds are spent. With a strong focus on trust and community engagement, the foundation strives to create lasting positive change both in Australia and Ethiopia.
